Girls' night out with Alora and Desert, sailing and goofing off at a water park...

...turned into something much nicer. Oh my yes, yum. Very yum.

Desert is so cute when she sleeps. :P I hated getting up but I needed to go to work... camping season, you know.

Woo! to finding that I have a bit of money in my bank account. I wasn't broke, not really, even after rent but there's some stuff I wanted bo buy today and this'll make it a little easier.

Of course, I then blew a little bit of it (but not even an eighth) playing blackjack, but it's not that I really mind... all I'm doing is giving back a little of the money I earned at that casino camping, and that's probably a good thing for them.

So.

Off to find food, and then gonna go out and go shopping a bit and then... try to work out some space at the marina to... try something. *enigmatic smile*

I set a new time record in the beginner's regatta at... at... heck, I don't even remember the name of ... oyeah, Starboards Yacht Club yesterday. It's a simple thing, just the running start behind the start/finish line, sail out almost to the curve of Hollywood Island where the marina ends, around the buoy next to this really cool derelict ship, and then back to the line. This came after me actually taking a sailing lesson... I mean, I've already been sailing for the little while now and I did race at Mowry Bay the other Wednesday but I haven't really done anything official, and I -did- pick up a lot of knowledge about reading the wind and trimming the sails and so on, but...

Not that Starboards counts the beginners as anything, but on the first run of the race I came in at almost a tie with one of the other student boats, at +00:01:46. I think it was maybe the difference of maybe half a second that she beat me by.

On the second running of it I had a much worse start, but somehow I got a better line on things on the way out to the buoy... I didn't realize -how- good until I passed both of the other student boats going in the other direction (still outbound) on the way back... I could have done the hare to the tortoise but I didn't... and cruised past the line at +00:01:38. And my instructor said that's actually a new record for the beginner's regatta and if I kept that up I'd probably be beating some of the better sailors around there, at least be the best of the amateurs. (The other two boats came in about four and nine seconds behind me).

Class disbanded after that, but I kept doing runs, timing myself (stopwatch) by drifting, starting a two minute count just like a real race, and circling behind the line after raising sails until zero before crossing the line...

I beat my own time, at +00:01:24.

Pity nobody was there to see -that-.

I was glowing the rest of the day. And a few beers at the Blarney Stone (and some flirting with a cute kitty who may or may not have been female, but it doesn't matter really) kept the glow there until it was time to go to bed.

Ok, I just finished a nice long sailing practice run... one lap of the Adriatic race course, which takes place around the large islands in the sea off Caddo. One lap, and I did it in +00:15:29.

Now I'm going to look at the Cup standings for times for that lap and see what the average time is...

Oo, have no idea, looks like they're not using that course so far except maybe for the actual Cup. I'll ask around.

Headclearing needed tonight, but at least things are going to be okay, I think. Ash took things well.

He's the best brother in the world.

I was going to ask Kumar if anything was going on tonight at CC&C, but I don't really feel up to getting up on stage tonight for a shift. There's a fun race in Mowry Bay in a few hours, and as I became a member of the Mowry Bay Yacht Club last night when my friend Evo and Max brought me by there to meet some other sailors, I'm thinking about going by to give a race a whirl.

Sailing, for all the work it involves, seems to clear my mind.

If I can tag someone to ride along with me I'll see if I can get them to take pictures; if not then I'll just have to write stories about it.

Time to head out now, then; I need to shower and change and go get Lady J over to Mowry Bay so I can take part. I've got a couple of hours; should be plenty of time. Caddo is closer to Mowry by land then by sea anyway.

I do love her. I think that became clear last night. And I'm not really embarassed to admit it, either, but out of respect for not knowing how she'd take it, I'm not going to plaster my journal with her name, either.

But it does mean I have to go do something very important now. I hope things turn out okay.

Sailing, sailing, over the ocean blue

Something like that :)
actually I'm writing this from a sort of platform in the middle of the ocean, with my little sailboat tied up next to me. Going to nap here to see if the winds change.

I can't name the boat, although I know that's not exactly good luck to not name her. It's a little Flying Tako, but what I want to name my boat, Lady Jen, I don't want to until I trade up for something bigger. With, say, a jib.

Hm. So, on top of being able to fly (both with my own wings and with my plane) and knowing how to swordfight a little, now I seem to know a little about sailing.

I haven't been in space yet. :) But I'm conquering the other places quite nicely, huh?
